Do I need new hardware?
You need an energy meter on each machine you want to measure. BUSROOT works with meters for single-phase and three-phase supplies, from small machines up to large three-phase loads. A device that can send energy readings over MQTT or through the API can also feed BUSROOT.
Is it actual energy used, or calculated from amps and volts?
It's the actual energy used. The meter measures the energy consumed in kWh and BUSROOT records that reading. Power in kW is then worked out from the energy used in each minute.
Can I see energy use per product?
Yes. BUSROOT shows energy per unit for each station, and the production reports show total energy and energy per unit for each work order and each SKU.
What counts as wasted energy?
Energy used when no production or non-production schedule is running on the station, including out of shift. It's usually machines left on out of habit. Planned maintenance or other non-production time doesn't count as waste.
Can I see energy in pounds and CO2?
Yes. Set your price per kWh and your CO2 per kWh, and BUSROOT turns energy into cost and CO2 for every station, group and plant. That gives you measured figures to use in your carbon reporting.
Can I meter a whole site or line as well as single machines?
Yes. A meter on an incomer or a line can be set up as a meter-only station. The plant or line total then comes from that meter, rather than being added up from the machines below it.
What if I can't get a running signal from a machine?
BUSROOT can treat a station as productive whenever its power is above a threshold you set. So an energy meter can tell you when a machine is working as well as what it uses.
