- Output Industries’ platform Busroot is driving real-time performance gains and energy savings for more than 20 SME manufacturers.
- Busroot has already contributed to productivity gains of 10-15% for participating companies.
Penzance, Cornwall, April 2, 2025 – Cornwall-based output.industries has developed a new manufacturing performance platform, Busroot, that will significantly reduce inefficiency across UK industry - currently costing the economy an estimated £150 billion per year.
Output.industries’ is paving the way for smarter, more efficient manufacturing operations, and a flagship Smart Manufacturing Data Hub (SMDH) project, funded by Innovate UK, has enabled the company to further develop its pioneering technology through user feedback following deployment to more than 20 manufacturers across various sectors, including food & drink, medical equipment, and heavy industry.
Busroot has since gained strong industry traction, delivering 10–15% productivity gains for SMEs, without the need for additional staff, infrastructure, or external consultants.
In collaboration with other SMEs, Output.industries also contributed to SMDH’s Manufacturing Data Exchange Platform (MDEP), sharing anonymized data with the wider manufacturing ecosystem. Collective insights uncovered a 28% reduction in energy costs and 30% reduction in co2 emissions across 36 industry sectors.
“A machine is only valuable when it’s doing what it should be doing,” said Mike Wright, CEO and Co-Founder of output.industries. “Busroot shows manufacturers which machines aren’t delivering, why, and what to do about it. That’s how we help companies do more with the same - or less - and grow profitably.”
At its core, Busroot is a powerful yet intuitive digital platform that connects diverse factory machines, systems and shifts - regardless of age, brand or location - to create one real-time, centralised view of operations. The result is instant access to insights that unlock efficiency, reduce waste, and help businesses stay competitive in a fast-changing economy.
With Busroot, output.industries will play a pivotal role in advancing operational efficiency within the manufacturing sector - helping to set industry benchmarks, identify national trends and contribute to the advancement of net zero strategies with in-depth analytics and the provision of accurate, reliable, and timely data.
Richard Greasley, Group Production Director at Adey Steel, said: “Using the insights we gain from Busroot, we have identified areas for improvement in efficiency and productivity. Our next step is to integrate energy monitoring, which will provide further insights into our production operations and assist us in achieving our net zero goals in 2025 and beyond."
Cara Roberts, Business Development Manager, SMDH, said: “Output Industries has been a real success story. They have created a trusted environment where manufacturers share their data safely, adding value to their own businesses while supporting the UK manufacturing industry as a whole.”
With momentum building and a growing user base, output.industries plans to scale Busroot across the UK and into Europe - helping manufacturers unlock the performance needed to remain globally competitive, profitable, and sustainable.
